How to Make Your 2026 World Cup Bracket: Step-by-Step Guide
The 2026 FIFA World Cup has a brand-new format with 48 teams and a Round of 32. Making a bracket prediction is more fun โ and more complex โ than ever. This guide walks you through every step using our free interactive simulator.
Step 1: Fill In the Group Stage
Start at the Group Stage tab. You'll see all 12 groups (A through L), each with 6 matches to predict. For each match, click the team you think will win. If you think it will be a draw, click the "draw" button between the two teams. Click again to undo any selection.
As you fill in results, the live standings table below each group updates automatically, showing points, wins, draws, losses, and which teams have qualified (marked with a Q badge).
๐ก Tip: You don't need to be realistic. Pick all upsets if you want! This is your prediction โ make it fun. A 100% upset bracket is always a crowd favorite.
Step 2: Select Your 8 Best Third-Place Teams
Once all 12 groups are complete, move to the Best 3rd Place tab. You'll see all 12 third-place teams listed with their flag, country name, group, and points total. Select exactly 8 of the 12 โ these are the teams you think will advance as the best third-place finishers.
Our advice: pick the third-place teams with the most points and the strongest goal difference. In competitive groups (F, I, L), a third-place team could easily have 4โ5 points.
Step 3: Build Your Knockout Bracket
Click View Bracket to see the full knockout stage. The bracket is automatically populated using the official FIFA 2026 matchup rules โ group winners face runners-up or third-place teams, and teams from the same group can't meet until the quarterfinals.
Work your way from the Round of 32 upward. Click the team you think wins each match to advance them. The bracket fills round by round:
- Round of 32 โ selects the 16 teams for Round of 16
- Round of 16 โ selects the 8 quarterfinalists
- Quarterfinals โ selects the 4 semi-finalists
- Semifinals โ selects the 2 finalists
- Final โ reveals your World Champion
Step 4: Share Your Prediction
Once you've crowned your champion, click the "Download / Share" button in the bottom-right corner. This generates a 1080ร1080 PNG image showing your full bracket from Round of 16 to Final โ perfect for posting on Instagram, Twitter/X, or sharing in a WhatsApp group.
You can also copy a shareable link that lets friends open your exact bracket in their browser and see all your predictions.
Tips for a Great Bracket
- Don't always pick favorites. The World Cup is famous for upsets. Germany lost to South Korea in 2018 in the group stage. Argentina lost to Saudi Arabia in 2022.
- Think about the bracket draw. Teams in harder groups might face weaker opponents in the Round of 32 if they qualify as runners-up.
- Consider home advantage. USA, Canada, and Mexico all benefit from playing in familiar conditions with massive home support.
- Watch the injury news. A key player missing for a top nation can completely change the outcome.
